Local businessman, Hamilton R. Grant, announces bid for District 8 council seat
Columbia, S.C. – Today, local businessman and community leader Hamilton R. Grant announced his campaign to represent District 8 on the Richland County Council. Grant’s platform strives to promote transparency, build stronger infrastructure as well as maintain an ever-growing safe community.
“It is my honor to offer myself to serve the community that has poured so much into me. I would not be who and what I am today without the nurturing I gained while raised in Richland County.”
Hamilton and his amazing wife, Alana R. Grant, reside in the county district in which he was raised. Hamilton was educated by Richland School District Two and is a 2007 graduate of Richland Northeast High School. After his studies at S.C. State he enrolled in Alabama A&M University located in Huntsville, Alabama, to pursue his MBA. Hamilton graduated with a Master’s in Business Administration in May of 2014.
“One of the best decisions I ever made was to attend two historically black colleges and universities. These institutions have prepared me for this level of service and leadership.”
Currently, he serves as President for Grant Business Advisors, LLC (GBA). GBA is a financial and strategic advisory firm for nonprofits, small businesses, and middle-market companies. Hamilton also plays an active, passionate, and invested role in his community. He is the President of the Columbia Urban League’s Young Professionals, serves as a Project Ready Mentor, and is a member of the South Carolina Young Democrats.
“Serving our community with fellow young leaders has given me a sense of pride a hope over the years. We’ve been blessed to fellowship and grow with our peers while making an impact on the leaders coming behind us.”
He has a proven track record of involvement in the city of Columbia as he sits on the Famously Hot New Year’s Advisory Board as Co-Chair. His commitment does not stop there. He is a 2017 graduate of both the Columbia Chamber of Commerce Leadership class of 2017 and the James E. Clyburn Political Fellowship. Hamilton also serves as the Vice President for the Hate Won’t Win Movement a non-profit organization started by his wife in honor of the Emanuel 9.
